Dr. Kathryn Severn has been named the new SAPCA chair. She takes up her new role this January 2023, replacing outgoing chair Jason Douglass, whose two-year tenure came to an end in December 2022.

Kathryn has more than 15 years’ experience in the sports surfacing industry. Her academic research and development work led to a PhD from Loughborough University, where she studied the science of synthetic turf surfaces and player interactions.

Kathryn then pursued a career in the sports construction industry, including technical roles at Labosport UK, where she was Technical Director, and the Football Foundation where she was Framework and Procurement Manager.

In 2022, Kathryn joined Greenfields BV, where she is Product Director for the EMEA and Asia regions.

“These changes were largely driven by Jason Douglass and I look forward to building on the excellent work he achieved during his two-year tenure.”

Within SAPCA, Kathryn has been a member of the Board of Directors and the Technical Committee and has also chaired the Environmental Sustainability Working Group. “I’m delighted to take up the role of SAPCA chair at such an important and exciting time in the association’s journey,” Severn says. “SAPCA celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2022 and the past year has seen some major changes in operations.

We have a new CEO and the SAPCA board of directors now has a skills-led structure, which means that each board member has their own area of expertise – from governance, environmental sustainability and business development to membership relations.
